Updated Home Learning with Year 4
We hope you and your family are keeping well and have had an enjoyable half term. As part of our plans to support remote teaching and learning, we wanted to let you know that we are now using resources from Oak National Academy. Each day go into the daily splats and the lessons will be there for you and your child.
What is Oak National Academy?
Oak National Academy is an online classroom that has been created by teachers specifically to support pupils learning at home. It is backed by the Department for Education.
How are lessons taught?
Each lesson is delivered by a trained teacher, over a pre-recorded video, and it is made very clear at the start of each session anything you might need (such as pens, paper etc). The lessons are designed to need minimal supervision. Each lesson can be paused and rewound to help pupils learn at their own pace. The lessons include quizzes, worksheets and creative activities to engage your child.
How do I share my child's work with a teacher?
Take a screen shot of your child's work or a photo of your child working and email it or share it on Twitter. As some of the work will be written you can share this via email or twitter in the normal way.
Each Thursday at 11 am Oak Academy hold and online assembly. These provide opportunities to hear form some inspirational guest speakers, including the first British astronaut, the cast of the Lion King and the Archbishop of Canterbury. You will find links to these assemblies in Thursday's splats.
Oak Activity Club
Some days with feature activities from the Activity Club. These activities will hopefully keep your child active and engaged. The activities feature cook-a-longs, debating and arts activities. To access these activities please see the 'Oak Activity Club' section on our homepage.
If you need any help/support with your child's learning or have any questions. Please email me at: email@example.com
To run alongside this, we are setting a daily art challenge and a Monday writing challenge with Jane Considine.
During the course of the school closures there will be more competitions and challenges set, so keep checking our website for details.
Our daily expectation for year 4 are...
1. Read, either Read Theory, a book from home or a book on-line (Get Epic) - Read Theory should make up at least 3 of your reads per week.
2. Practise your spellings on Spelling Shed
3. Practise your times tables on TT Rockstars
4. Work that is set on our 'splats' below.
5. Exercise - click on our Exercise section for some ideas.
6. Have a go at the daily art challenge in the Art section.
7. Engage in the regular Hive and TT Rockstars challenges that are taking place daily. Keep an eye out on Twitter for times.
7. Get fresh air and relax for well being.
8. Spend time talking with your family.
Also you can go onto Education city where you can access Maths, English and Science activities.
Please tweet or email us some pictures of you learning - we love seeing them!
Enjoy your learning.
Over the next couple of weeks we will be focusing our learning on animals to go with Mrs Chatburn's competition. Each week we will post what animal or topic our week will be based on with a range of ideas of what you could do to put towards your project. We will be posting daily lesson ideas for you and will still be posting links to online lessons so you will have a choice of the activities that you want to complete. We hope you enjoy what we have planned!
This week our focus is... ORANGUTANS!
