Geography

Geography Intent

At Rice Lane, we give the children an awareness about how they and their local area fit into the wider world, an understanding of how change affects the world and a care for the global challenges that will face their generation. The children will use progressive subject-specific vocabulary, regularly embedded map skills and varied fieldwork to develop this understanding and awareness of the human and physical world, and how they need to respond at their age and as they get older.

An outstanding geography pupil needs:

  • To be curious about wanting to know more about the world.
  • To be able to ask questions that are insightful and geographically relevant.
  • To be critical thinkers when weighing evidence and sifting arguments to develop their own perspective and judgement.
  • To have a good understanding of the differences between physical and human geography.
  • To have a good understanding of the different methods of geographical investigation.
  • To be able to make comparisons between different geographical areas.
  • To be aware of how interconnected the modern world is and how we need to adapt as we move forwards.
