At Rice Lane primary School we aim to foster respect for the environment and compassion for living things, to enhance understanding of different culture and to inspire all students to take actions that will make the world a better place for people, animals and the environment

We have a very active and dedicated eco-team who promote conservation values within school and participate in various national and local projects.

Rice Lane Primary School are going for the Green Flag Award. Everyone is very excited about this. We have achieved the bronze level and silver awards.

Here are our the 3 projects that our children wanted to focus on.

1.Marine

At lunch-time, we would like to use re-usable tubs/greaseproof paper or a compartment style lunch boxes instead of using single-use plastic.

On the 8th of June it is ‘World ocean’s Day’ and to celebrate this we want all packed lunch children to try to go single-use plastic free for that day.

Here are some ideas for a plastic free school lunch.

Why not try greaceproof paper, re-usable plastic/bamboo tubs, re-usable plastic bottles or compartment style lunch boxes.

2. Healthy Living

Our mindful minutes project has now finished and we completed a staggering 33,484 minutes. You can continue being mindful at home. Here are some ideas:

After half term, we are taking part in a food waste project which we are very excited about. So look out for information on our newsletter. We have found this app that some of you may be interested in. It offers food at the end of the day for a cheaper price so that the food does not go to waste.

3.School Grounds

I will encourage wildlife into my school grounds by providing different plants and areas for them to live.

Each year group will be adding plants and creating habitats for birds, bugs, mammals and even amphibians!

Some year groups will even be growing their own vegetables.
