At Rice Lane we place a great emphasis on Social and Emotional well-being and Mental Health.
We believe Mental Health is "everybody's business". All learners are taught about Mental Health as part of the curriculum available to all. We have strong links with Merseyside Youth Association who have delivered staff training and assemblies.
Some children may need a little extra support and they work with our Learning Mentors. Learning Mentors run groups such as ‘Circle of Friends’ or ‘Lego Therapy’. Some children work with the Learning Mentors on a 1:1 basis and may for example work on identifying ‘big feelings’ and how to deal with them or they may do something such as Art Therapy. Sometimes a Learning Mentor may go into class to support a child with learning skills such as organising their work.
A small number of children may need further support from an outside agency. At present the 'Seedling Project' is delivering play therapy to a small number of children in school.
The Learning Mentors also work with children who do not have a Special Educational Need. More information about the work they do can be found on the page about Social and Emotional Well Being and Mental Health.
